For children ages 18-months to three years, we offer a brief, age-appropriate visit to see where Mommy will be having her baby. Children receive a "Big Brother" or "Big Sister" t-shirt, and parents receive all of the information provided on the adult tours.
Sibling Preparation and Hospital Tour
In this course, children will learn how important older siblings are and how to be safe with a newborn baby. They and their parents will spend about 30 minutes in a classroom, where they will view a sibling video specific to their age group about becoming big brothers or sisters. They will then practice basic baby care skills such as holding, diapering, and swaddling.
At the end of the class, each child will be presented with a Big Sister or Big Brother t-shirt. Families will then go on a tour of our maternity units so that siblings may become familiar with the surroundings where mom will be when baby comes. Parents will be given all of the information provided in the Adult Hospital Tour, as well as an article about sibling adjustment to a new baby.
