Once you have delivered your baby, we will continue to be here for you. The education department at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas offers infant care classes and support groups to help families prepare for the physical, psychological, and emotional changes that come with newborn care and parenthood.

Childbirth classes

Babies don't come with guidebooks, so we provide helpful classes for caregivers, including parents and grandparents. Classes fill quickly, so be sure to register early. If you need to cancel or make changes to your registration, please call (281) 438-4357 as soon as possible. A 25% service charge for class cancellations applies. We provide free parking during classes, tours and support group meetings.

This course helps parents-to-be prepare for life adjustments when life includes a new baby. Each participant will receive a book to take home.

Life with baby will cover the following topics:

  • Newborn appearance and characteristics
  • Swaddling, diapering and bathing
  • Infant illness and when to call the pediatrician
  • Infant safety
  • Feeding
  • Infant sleep states
  • Strategies for coping with a crying baby

Would you know what do if your baby stopped breathing? In this non-certification class, parents, grandparents, and caregivers will learn and practice CPR for infants up to age one. You will also learn what to do for an infant who is choking and general safety tips for the household with a new baby.

This "Friends and Family" course is developed by the American Heart Association (AHA) and is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. Participants receive an AHA CPR book and safety information to take home.

For grandparents-to-be, this class will bring you up-to-date on current baby care practices and includes ways to support family members as they become parents. This class is only offered virtually.

For virtual classes, you will receive the course materials in the mail prior to your class. We use the Cisco Webex platform, and encourage you to download the app ahead of time if possible.

Parenting support groups

We believe in connection and community, which is why we host support groups at The Woman's Hospital of Texas in an open and secure environment. All support groups are free of charge and no registration is required to attend. Parking will be validated.

Birth, baby, and beyond (BBB) is an informal meeting of expectant parents, and babies up to age one. Dedicated to creating a supportive environment, BBB is designed to facilitate knowledge-sharing, relationship development and community-building among mothers and other experts involved in baby-related fields. We discuss issues of concern such as sleeping, crying, feeding, and family dynamics. Join the “BBB Playgroup Houston” on Facebook to learn more about their in-person sessions.

Breastfeeding support is provided in our post-delivery lactation support group for mothers of babies who are up to six weeks of age. This support group is only offered virtually.

Newborn care and parenting support services

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas offers a variety of educational resources and wellness services individualized for your special needs as you adjust to life with your newest addition.

As one of the most challenging feats that women experience, pregnancy can leave mothers with stretched skin, back pain, painful and tight scars, pelvic floor weakness and pain. If left unattended, these conditions may lead to organ prolapse, urinary or fecal leakage or sexual pain.

Our licensed physical therapists specialize in women’s health and pelvic floor problems. We can help patients manage pain through manual therapy, education and exercise. We offer therapy for scar pain, prenatal or postpartum back pain and other women’s issues. For more information, please call the number below:

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas proudly partners with the March of Dimes to provide the area’s only NICU Family Support program (1 of 2 in the entire state). We are the only hospital in Houston that has a full-time March of Dimes NICU family support program coordinator on site. The program offers information and comfort to families during the NICU hospitalization of their newborn, during the transition home, and in the event of a newborn death. It also provides professional education for NICU staff; and promotes neonatal family centered care in NICUs.

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas recommends having your infant car seat checked for proper installation by a certified child passenger safety technician before your child is born. To find a car seat inspection event near you, visit Safe Kids Greater Houston's webpage. Inspection is free, but appointments are required.
