Houston, Texas, October 15, 2013 – In an attempt to raise Breast Cancer Awareness, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas (TWHT) is teaming up with Pearland Football League to Pom Pearland Pink on Saturday, October 19, 2013 on the field at Dawson High School, 2050 Cullen Blvd. Pearland, TX  77581.

To honor the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer during their lifetime, the PFL Cheer Coaches will be wearing pink jerseys. Game attendees will also receive pink pom poms to cheer along with the cheerleaders who will be tossing out pink mini footballs during each game. The hospital will have an informational booth at the field from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm and there will be PFL games from 9:00 am – 8:00 pm.

“Since moms play such an important role in the activities of their children, this was a logical partnership,” said Donna Roth, Executive Assistant to the CEO at TWHT and organizer of the event. “You would be hard pressed to find a mom who doesn’t either have breast cancer in her immediate or extended family or know someone who has battled this disease. This idea started with the Pearland Junior Eagles Blue Football team and our cheer squad. The boys have pink ribbons on their helmets and wear pink wrist bands in October.  The girls use pink pom poms and wear pink hair ribbons all month long.” Roth worked with Tina Curry and Karen Ochoa from PFL to put the PINK event together.

This year the American Cancer Society estimates that 39,620 women will die from breast cancer so it is important to continue getting the word out. “I sincerely hope that this event will help remind moms to make their own healthcare a priority,” said Linda Russell, CEO. “As Houston's FIRST Woman's Hospital, we believe that every woman counts but all too often moms put the care of their families first.  Every woman deserves compassionate and exceptional care.”

About The Woman’s Hospital of Texas

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is Houston's FIRST Woman's Hospital. The hospital was established in 1976 by a group of physicians who recognized the need for a facility focused solely on the care of women and infants. In keeping with this vision, Woman’s offers a full range of women’s services, including breakthrough developments in minimally invasive surgery such as Robotic Surgery, and urogynecology. Many of the physicians at Woman’s pioneered minimally invasive gynecological surgery techniques, and the hospital is designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery by the AAGL.  The hospital has an antepartum unit, 36 labor and delivery rooms, a medical surgical unit and 124-bed Levels II and III Neonatal Intensive Care nurseries. Since its inception, The Woman's Hospital of Texas has welcomed over 200,000 babies into the world and delivers more babies in Houston than any other hospital. Our experienced physicians specialize in high-risk deliveries, from handling preemies weighing less than 1,500 grams to offering a comprehensive Multiples Clinic for women having twins, triplets, or more. In addition, the Woman’s Hospital of Texas was twice named a top performer in quality measures by the Joint Commission, and has been designated as a Center of Excellence for Continence Care in Women by the National Association for Continence.
