Houston, TX - "The Woman’s Hospital of Texas (TWHT) announces being named one of the top performers in using evidence-based care processes to improve patient outcomes by The Joint Commission. TWHT is one of 405 organizations identified as attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for the full year of 2010. These recognized facilities represent approximately 14 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access hospitals that report core measure performance data.

“Our hospital is committed to providing quality, compassionate care to the women and babies we serve,” said Linda Russell, CEO of TWHT. “This recognition is an indicator that assessing compliance and processes leads to better performance and inspires us to achieve higher standards for our patients.”

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is a top performer in surgical care and was chosen based on its quality improvement efforts in surgery to create better outcomes for patients and ultimately a healthier community. As a result of hospitals that, like TWHT, have used evidence based care processes in surgical care— a tremendous improvement in performance has been measured over the past nine years.

The Joint Commission’s sixth annual report, which presents scientific evidence of hospital performance and how it relates to common medical conditions and procedures, demonstrates continual improvement on accountability measures. The newest data drawn from more than 3,000 accredited hospitals shows that the results of surgical care have improved to 96.4 percent in 2010 up from 82.1 percent in 2005.

“Our work to consistently improve the quality of care we offer our community is an ongoing process,” said Cathy Thibodeaux, Director of Quality Resource Management at TWHT. “Although we are proud of our work—the work is never done. There is always a way to improve and that’s what we’re looking for.”
