Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Room Offers Immediate Medical Care 24/7

Children's ER in Houston

When your child is in need of immediate medical care, the Pediatric ER at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas provides a full spectrum emergency care services with round-the-clock coverage. Our kids ER is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our ER was created for children to ensure a comfortable environment for our pediatric patients and their parents.

Whether your child is experiencing a minor illness or needs life-saving intervention, we will provide prompt and personalized care in a child-friendly environment.

These are just a few of the childhood conditions our emergency health care professionals provide care for:

  • asthma
  • fever
  • ear infections
  • upper respiratory infections
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • dehydration
  • pneumonia
  • rashes
  • abdominal pain
  • seizures
  • cardiac abnormalities

Our Pediatric ER is designed for children and their families

Our pediatric emergency room is staffed by board-certified pediatric physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists who are experienced and specially trained in pediatric emergency medicine. Child life specialists are also available to provide support and education to both parents and children.

Each of our six private treatment rooms has enough space for parents to stay with their child during their stay—a proven comfort to kids, moms and dads.

Our equipment is specially designed for pediatric patients. Emergency equipment such as IV catheters, oxygen masks, splints, chest tubes, urinary catheters and others are all made in sizes to fit children’s bodies. This leads to higher quality medical care and more comfortable treatment for your child.

There is also an on-site, full-service lab and advanced imaging department to obtain emergency test results as quickly as possible.

All procedures will be fully explained, and instructions for follow-up care will be discussed with the parents and the child upon release.

Should your child need to be hospitalized for continued care, patients can be transferred directly to our on-site Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), or our Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit. Outpatient services are also available for patient treatment, monitoring, rehabilitation and follow-up.

Dedicated pediatric waiting room

Children coming to the emergency room are usually in distress, which is why we provide a dedicated waiting area just for our pediatric patients. This is a family-centered area where your child can receive the love and support of parents, siblings and other family members. Here, your child will find a calming environment featuring cheerful colors, play areas, books and televisions to help ease the fears children often associate with a trip to the emergency room.

“Reach Air Medical” pediatric emergency air transport

When quick action is critical for your child’s survival, “REACH Air Medical” supplies air ambulances and helicopters to air-lift your child to our emergency room, available 24/7 on a physician’s orders. Your child will be accompanied in-flight by REACH’s emergency medical staff with specialized training in pediatrics, and a dedicated transport team. Upon arrival to the Pediatric Center, your child will be met by a team of our specially prepared pediatric emergency medical professionals, and admitted directly into our Emergency Department for immediate treatment and care.
