Houston, TX — The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is celebrating its 50th anniversary in May, marking five decades of caring for women, newborns and children across the Houston area. As the hospital honors its legacy, it is also looking ahead with a series of renovations designed to modernize spaces, elevate the patient experience and support the community’s growing need for specialized care.

Planned improvements include renovations to women’s services, updates to labor and delivery and expanded private-room capacity in the hospital’s Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The renovation plans also support growth of The Woman’s Hospital of Texas’ pediatric congenital heart program, including dedicated clinical spaces and advanced imaging capabilities.

“This anniversary is a meaningful milestone for our hospital and for the families who have trusted us over the past 50 years,” said Jeanna Bamburg, CEO of The Woman’s Hospital of Texas. “As we celebrate our legacy, we’re also energized by what’s ahead including expanding and enhancing the specialized care Houston families depend on.”

Women’s services and labor and delivery

The project includes renovations to 54 postpartum patient rooms with updated finishes, fixtures and infrastructure intended to create a more comfortable, spa-like environment for patients and families after childbirth. Plans also include two additional postpartum suites with private family rooms to support rest, recovery and time together with loved ones.

Renovations to the labor and delivery unit are planned to help create a consistent experience for patients across the full care continuum.

Level IV NICU private-room expansion

To further align with its Level IV neonatal designation, The Woman’s Hospital of Texas plans to add 18 private NICU patient rooms, including four rooms designed for families with twins so parents can remain with both babies during care. Additional rooms will be designed to accommodate specialized procedures, including neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).

Supporting pediatric congenital heart care

As part of the hospital’s continued growth, the renovations will help lay the foundation for a new pediatric congenital heart program. Plans include a dedicated pediatric cath lab, a pediatric cardiovascular operating room and advanced imaging with cardiac CT and MRI to support pediatric cardiac care.

Houston’s continued population growth is increasing demand for maternity, women’s health and specialized pediatric services. Hospital leaders say these updates reflect a long-term commitment to serving families across the region.

“The Woman’s Hospital of Texas has a strong legacy of care. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary this May, we’re also looking ahead. These investments from HCA Healthcare will help ensure women and families across Houston continue to have access to high-quality, specialized care in a modern, supportive environment for the next 50 years,” Bamburg said.
