Houston’s only Baby-Friendly Hospital offers breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence & skills needed to successfully breastfeed their babies.

Houston, TX —Pediatrician Melanie Mouzoon, M.D.,  Pediatric Hospitalist with Kelsey-Seybold Clinic, spoke with Melissa Wilson at Fox 26 News on Friday, March 19th on how breastfeeding is the ideal way to give babies nutrition. A recent comprehensive study in England involving more than 10,000 children has found those who were exclusively breastfed for at least the first week of their lives performed better than those who were fed formula.

“One way to be successful at breastfeeding is to choose a hospital that supports breastfeeding friendly policies.  There’s a certification called Baby-Friendly which honors hospitals that are pro-breastfeeding. Currently only The Woman’s Hospital of Texas has this certification,” said Dr. Mouzoon.

TWHOT is the first hospital in Houston and the largest hospital in the country to receive international recognition as a Baby-Friendly designated birth facility by the organization Baby-Friendly USA. Currently, there are only a little over 200 hospitals in the United States that have achieved this status.

“This is a distinguished achievement that benefits our patients as much as our hospital,” said The Woman’s Hospital of Texas CEO, Linda Russell. “Our staff took great strides in making sure our facility was in top-notch shape as the Baby Friendly on-site survey was conducted. As a result we can help the women of Houston in a way no other hospital can, giving moms the confidence they need to successfully breast feed their babies.  When women choose The Woman’s Hospital of Texas they can expect both themselves and their children to be cared for and nurtured.”
